MISSOURI SHELTIES

It took an incredible amount of planning, coordinating, and collaboration, but we got it done! 11 of the 32 dogs from a Missouri puppy mill/backyard breeder have safely made their way to the East Coast. Thanks to Animal Rescue Front in Connecticut helping with the transport. Thanks to the National Sheltie Rescue and the Sheltie Shack for helping get these dogs their health certificates and vaccines so they could travel across the states.
Tuesday, September 19th, our volunteers Jodie & Frank drove to Long Island to pick up our four dogs, who were vetted and cared for at Long Island Sheltie Rescue’s vet. Jodie & Frank drove them back to Maine, and the dogs are now safely in quarantine in a private home. We can’t thank them enough for taking the time to drive them safely to Maine.

With Maine’s law, we have to quarantine them. They will have time to decompress, get lots of good food, and all the while we will ensure that they are healthy enough to go to their foster homes. Our volunteers, Amanda & Jo, created a quarantined space for them. They have an outside safe space so the dogs are secure and can have clean space outside and enjoy the fresh air.

These Shelties need to recover from their long drive. In the next few weeks they will be groomed, evaluated by our vets, and treated as needed. The vet care will continue in their foster homes with their spay, neuter and dentals as needed.

So let’s give a WARM WELCOME to the Missouri dogs. The dogs are listed here (ages are all estimates as we don’t really know):
* Noah, Light Sable male about 2 years old.
* Josie Fay, A blue merle female about 4 years old.
* Chance, Dark sable male – 2 years old
* Nugget -4 – 6 month old femal
These dogs are matted. They likely have never been groomed. And they are very, very thin. And they are all very scared.

 They will not be ready for adoption for some time as they are terrified of people. They will need time to decompress as everything they know has changed literally overnight. With time their real personalities will start to come through and they will learn that people really are not all that bad. They will get whatever time they need, and we will find wonderful adoptive homes for them when they are ready.
