So Sugar bolted out the door of a camper at Keoka Beach Camp ground on Thursday, August 24th, 2023. And it was reported on FaceBook. When a MSR volunteer read about it, it took a few minutes for her to realize this Sheltie, missing in Waterford, was essentially loose in her backyard.
Because of other committments, and trusting the dog would return, the volunteer was not able to focus on Sugar’s escape. She walked her Shelties in the area calling for Sugar, to no avail. She also contacted Sugar’s caretaker at the campground, to give support and see how MSR could help.
Monday, took the volunteer to Scarborough for an appointment, where because of its proximity, she was able to make a quick trip to Portland to MSR headquarters. There, MSR President, Holly, gave her a huge Have-Heart trap so it could be set that up at the campground ….with lots of yummy chicken for bait! So 4 pm Monday, the trap was set!
And guess who walked into that trap at 11 pm that night! That sweet Sugar! The caregiver texted MSR right away! Not only did Sugar have a nice secure restful night, but those helping from MSR could settle in knowing she was safe!
We are so grateful this perfect little girl is home, safe and sound!
