Help Collies

Dear Friends and Supporters of Maine Sheltie Rescue,

For years Maine Sheltie Rescue has had a special relationship with our friends in Collie Rescue League of New England. We have provided transport and have done home visits for each other. We even have foster homes who foster for us and for Collie Rescue. We received an email from their executive director, Cathy Vellucci asking for help. I thought I would pass it on to you as every bit would help our friends in Collie Rescue of New England.

Sincerely,  Holly Fent

Good afternoon,

This is an important message from Collie Rescue League of New England and eastern New York.  As some of you may know from our Facebook page, we rescued 19 collies this week.  We received the call on Friday evening that the owner was no longer able to care for them, and we arrived on Sunday to transport them.  Regrettably, some of the collies did not survive, and it was an utterly heart wrenching experience to come upon.

All of the 19 rescued will need to be spayed/neutered and will require full veterinary care including vaccinations and grooming.  Additionally, 11 of the collies to date have tested heartworm positive, and not all of them have been tested.  The cost of the treatment range from $3,200 to $4,000 per collie.  At a minimum, we are looking at $35,200 to $44,000 for the heartworm treatments alone, and we do not yet know the status of those collies still untested.  This is an enormous outlay for us.

Moreover, we were just beginning to recover from the Solon rescues in August only to be hard hit with this emergency.  We still have a few of the Solon collies left to place, and one handsome young lad has a seizure disorder that we are working toward getting to the bottom of so that he may live a relatively full life.

Please donate what you can–no amount is too small.  As always, we are committed to making sure these collies get the help they need.  We must be the champions for those that have no voice.
