1. The Adoption Application can be downloaded and printed HERE. The Application can also be requested calling (207) 773-6677.
2. The application must be filled in completely. References should include the familiy’s veterinarian. Once an application is received by email or postal mail, the MSR President will contact a MSR Home Visit Volunteer.
3. Once the home visit has been completed, the report is reviewed by the MSR President.
4. If the home visit is acceptable, the applicant(s) will be contacted by the MSR President to discuss available dogs that match their request and lifestyle.
5. If the applicant is interested in an available dog, a meeting is scheduled so they can meet. If the meeting is positive and a good match, the adoption can be finalized at any time.
6. An adoption fee payment is required at the time of the adoption. The fee is based on the dog’s age takes into consideration any canine health issues.The fee may also be adjusted for a senior applicant and/or a senior dog.
7. To finalize an adoption, the adoption contract must be completed in duplicate:
a. one copy for the adoptive parent(s)
b. the 2nd copy for the dog’s Master File maintained with MSR.
8. If the dog is to be adopted by more than one person (either married or partners), both individuals must sign the agreement.
9. The adopters will receive the dog’s rabies certificate and other medical records along with any other items (collars, leash, bedding & favorite toys). An adoption picture will be taken at the time of the adoption!
Maine Sheltie Rescue, Inc. evaluates surrendered Shelties in foster homes or
our facility prior to posting dogs available for adoption. After behavior assessment and visits to our veterinarians, we re-home our Shelties to the best homes we can find.
